As the owner of Showhome Furniture, I have examined thousands of different pieces of furniture and am very well versed in what furniture is going to last and what furniture is not. Unfortunately, as I have visited friends and family, I have found that this talent is not something everyone has. Buying furniture is expensive. Buying cheaply made furniture is even more expensive.

Recently I went to my sisters house. She has a lot of kids and they lead a very active life. With friends and family constantly coming and going, her furniture gets it share use. The last time I went, I noticed her couches. She has two different kinds of couches in her living room. She has an old leather love seat that is easily 12 years old. She also has a beautiful set on couches that are 2 years old made from synthetic leather and bought from a box store. It was interesting to see the difference in the two furnitures. The leather love seat was worn, and a small rip had started at the back, other than that though, it had kept it shape and looked very respectable.

My sisters other two couches however was a very different story. The shiny synthetic leather was fine on the back, but on the seats the cushions were peeling terribly and it made her whole living room look old and tired. Even the couch protectors that she placed over the peeling cushions did not cover up the poor quality of her couches.

Every day, more and more people are working from home. With Covid, global unrest and amazing technology, working from home are becoming more and more desirable. Even if you don’t have a job that requires you to work from home, everyone should have one (or more) little corners set aside in their home for creating, working, and dreaming.  This can be a reclaimed secretary that holds pride-of-place in your living room, or a small desk tucked under a window at the end of a hall.  It can even be a space that you have to share with others and other functions from time to time, like part of the dining room table or a counter in the laundry room.  

All of us have correspondence we need to take care of and having a place and system for mail, bills etc is crucial to our people of mind.  If your house lacks a formal office, you might find that your bedroom offers you the peace and isolation you need for creative writing.  By casting a critical eye over each area of your home, you will likely find spots that will work for your family. In limited space, you could use a fold-down desk or a rolling table.  Bookshelves are great in almost any room, not only for favorite reading material but to help keep records, files, and current projects all in one place.

8 Great Ways Of Designing The Perfect Console Table

Who doesn’t love a console table?  It’s such a useful piece of furniture, it adds storage and style to a narrow space in a foyer or tucks up nicely behind the back of a sofa. I rounded up several favorite examples of console tables that add both beauty and practicality to space. I noticed many commonalities in the way that they’re styled with layered objects, here’s a list of “no-fail” objects to gather on yours too.

Branches or Botanicals. One of my favorite things from nature to add to any vignette are branches. In any season, they are tall and sculptural and reach up high into vertical wall space adding organic appeal. But anything botanical works on a console table and adds that “something living” element such as a small vase of flowers or a collection of succulents or a just a few yard clippings from a favorite perennial.

Baskets. Baskets fill the negative space below a console table and add desirable texture. They also bring the benefit of extra storage: linens in a dining room, wood in a living room, shoes in an entry. etc.

Lamps. Singular or in pairs, lamps add the obvious: light! Or better yet, dimmer light than overhead chandeliers for greater ambiance. A great lamp will also be statuesque on your console if its base is curved, faceted, colorful, or alluring in some way. 

Books. New or old, a stack of hardcover books is always appealing on the interesting topics of travel, architecture, history, or design. In a community space, make them ones that visitors will want to thumb through during their stay.

Distinctive Pieces. A console is a great spot for your unique pair of carved animals or an interesting collection of objets d’art, they’ll be visible to admire for all who pass by

One trick that the expert designers are sure to use when trying to update and freshen up a room is to switch around throw pillows. Often put down by men, throw pillows are a great way of changing the look and feel of a room without a lot of effort. We know this trick well because at Showhome Furniture our designers are always coming up with new creative designs to show off our amazing collection of high-quality furniture. As we are constantly bringing in new items, we are also constantly accessorizing our furniture with our amazing collection of awesome pillows.

First, choose a color scheme and stick with it. As you choose colors of pillows in the same scheme you will find that their impact will be the most noticeable. Try to find pillows in the shades of the same color or complementary to the scheme you choose.

Layer your pillows with simple patterns, then busy then solid. This helps keep our eye interested when looking at a room and is pleasing to the soul! The busiest print should be the largest and will get the most attention. The other prints should not compete with the busy print.

Use different texture of pillows together. Our long sheep fur pillows are some of our favorite. We love adding that soft texture to our designs because they are unique and so soft to touch.

Use the largest pillows on the outside and get smaller as they move to the middle of the couch or bed. You can just put pillows on one side of a piece of furniture if it isn’t that large. You want the pillows to complement, not distract you.

Lastly, don’t use too many pillows. You don’t want your guests to sit down on your couch and feel like they are getting lost in a pile of pillows. You want the pillows to add beauty and comfort to your experiences and not be uncomfortable.
