5 Ways of Using Scandinavian Decor In Your Home

There is something so refreshing about walking in a Scandinavian home. Their style is very unique, yet feels familiar and comfortable. Even if you don’t have Scandinavian roots, you can enjoy their style in your home by following these simple tips from Showhome Furnitures top designers. Remember, if you have any trouble at all about how to decorate your home, you can give us a call and book your free on-hour design consultation today!

One of the reasons we love Scandinavian interior design is that it manages to create a space that is at once modern, airy, tidy, and cozy at the same time. It is a space that welcomes good conversation and people while keeping their stuff to a minimum.

The most important thing you can do to create a Scandinavian feel in your home is to make sure that your rooms are full of natural light. The more you can free your windows up from dark curtains (or curtains altogether), and liberate the most amount of light into your room the better.

Keeping your walls a very light color is part of the Scandivavian look. That doesn’t mean you have to keep your walls white, though white is a popular color. You can paint them any warm, light color to reflect and take advantage of the light coming in from your window.

While your walls should be very light, your furniture and accessories should not. A Hallmark feature of Scandinavian design is high contrast. Dark furniture with clean lines will contrast with the light walls. Also, using modern furniture will often be the perfect contrast to more ornate architectural feature you might have in your home.

Layering your accessories with different textures is a fabulous way of creating intrigue in your decorating. Make good use of long wool rugs, and pillows. Thick chunky throws and natural cow rugs are perfect for the Scandinavian look.

Lastly, think cozy! Scandinavian’s love being cozy. This can be achieved by adding a few extra pillows to your simple lined couch, or an extra blanket to the end of your bed. Using the warmth of wood to decorate, or candles is also an excellent way of adding warmth to your room.

Scandinavian’s are experts in creating a spaces that are both spacious and cozy. If this is a feel you would like to create in your home, just follow our tips and in no time at all you will have a home that is tidy, carefully put together and cozy-Scandinavian style!

Creating A Stunning Master Bedroom

Whether you are staging, your home for sale or simply decorating for you and your family, one of the most important rooms you can focus on is the master bedroom.  Sometimes we put this room at the end of our to-do list, concentrating on the public spaces of our home first.   But our souls crave an area of beauty and order.  By making your master bedroom a priority, you give yourself an oasis – just the tool you need to finish the other parts of your home.

As the inner sanctuary of your home, your bedroom and should be a place of peace and rejuvenation.     In the relaxing atmosphere of a well-designed bedroom, you can reconnect with who and what matters the most.  You can recharge and refresh. If you are having trouble turning your master bedroom into this oasis, give Showhome Furniture a call. We love helping our customers with their designing needs and offer a free one-hour design consultation with our top designers.

Your bed should be cozy and well-structured to give you the night’s sleep you need to handle your busy days.  Enticing, easy-care bedding helps, as does a well-structured mattress big enough for you and your partner (and whatever little people might make their way to your room in the night).   If possible, there should be plenty of natural light, and adequate artificial lighting, too.  Even if you like waking up to a darkened room, there is nothing quite like the lift you get from opening blinds or curtains and letting sunlight flood your space.

Furnishing your bedroom should be fun and purposeful.  For your furniture,  rather than simply utilizing castoffs from other places in the home, choose pieces that are both beautiful and practical, ones that will not only help maintain order but will tell some of your story.  Once the main items are in place, consider choosing accessories, maybe whimsical and playful, that delight you and that you want to wake up to each morning.

Properly designed and decorated, your bedroom should remind you daily of the things that are really important in life and offer you a place of refreshment, a place that will welcome you at the end of the day.  By investing time to create a space where you can rest, dream, plan, giggle together and create bonds, you will enjoy your bedroom more and feel more connected to it.

Sleeping in your bed can make you feel cozy and relax. How warm you feel in a room relies on where you are, despite the fact that air temperature is the similar throughout. You will experience a warm ambiance if you place yourself nearer to the interior of the room for the reason that freezing external surfaces are further away. So consider placing your bed or chair next to an internal wall.

Maximize sunlight with banks of windows added to the south side of your bed to absorb the most light and warmth daily. On the north side of the bedroom, windows need to be minimal. Each position differs in terms of glazing, so talk to your contractor to get advice on the specifics of your own bedroom ideas.

Another substantial determining factor for a well design space is utilizing it for your own comfort and satisfaction. Master bedrooms have to be of good size with spa-like functions such as a Jacuzzi to conquer the weather and give a romantic setup for couples.

5 Rental-Friendly Decorating Tips For Everyone!

I have had some pretty interesting rentals in my lifetime. From dingy basement suites, to townhouses, to old heritage homes and everything in between.

I remember the pain of trying to making my rental a home, without spending too much money and worrying about things I could not change. This could be overwhelming for me because my budget was low and my skill in designing at that stage of my life was very limited.

If you are in this situation don’t feel like you have to do this alone. Showhome Furniture wants to help everyone create a beautiful home to be in. Just call us and book a free design consultation with our expert designers. They are amazing and love to work with our customers. They are creative and will be able to help you no matter what your budget is.

One trick I learned was to ask the landlord if I could paint the house. I would offer to do the labor if they provided the paint. This was an awesome deal for us both and almost all my landlords my landlords took me up on it. Just painting your walls can turn a drab rental into a lovely space.

Next check out the thrift stores and second hand shops. Kijiji is an awesome resource as well as your community buy and sells on facebook. Ask around to friends. Lots of times people are switching out perfectly good accessories and furniture just because they are bored of them. This is a great way of scoring some awesome deals.

Lastly, once you have painted, scored as many cheap and free deals as you can, invest in a few good quality pieces of furniture that can help you complete your look. Cheaply made furniture is easy to come by, and is fine temporarily, but investing in good furniture is important to start doing early on and can save you thousands of dollars in the end.

My sister for instance has a table that is over 15 years old and looks almost as great as it did when it was first purchased. It has withstood a ton of moves, 11 kids, and countless of parties. The same goes for some of the quality leather couches she acquired many years ago.

At Showhome Furniture we have gorgeous Canadian made, high-quality furniture that can be custom made and will be well worth your investment. We also have a design team that would be thrilled to help you pick out some furniture that will be perfect for your rental!

How A Showhome Makeover Changed My Life

This is a true experience from one of our Showhome Furniture Customers:

It was late at night, when I was almost in tears that I confessed to my husband that I just needed a break! We had seven kids, were in the middle of renovating our basement and my well was dry. I knew that being a mother to so many children was truly my dream, and so was finishing my basement. At that moment though, my dream just seemed less romantic than I had imagined and a lot harder. My husband listened to me patiently and then agreed to take me away.

After a few phone calls to grandparents the next day our trip was planned. In just two days, my husband, two oldest kids and I were going to go down to Utah for an educational conference. The five younger kids would be watched by my parents. This was a dream come true and I was so grateful for my husband and my parents for helping me get the break I knew I really needed.

The week was wonderful and I came back to my home refreshed and ready to hug each of my babies, wipe their tears, listen to their stories and be their happy mama once more. Truly being a mother is my favorite thing in the world and I was anxious to get home.

It was late when I got home, and to my surprise my home was packed. Two of my sisters, as well as all their kids were there, along with a few neighborhood kids and more. I was confused and then over whelmed to tears. In every single room of my house, my home was transformed. Walls were painted, couches replaced, new furniture was everywhere and so were smiling delighted faces. I was floored! Who arranged for all of these miracles to happen?

It was then I was brought downstairs to my junky unfinished basement. I was stunned. New flooring had been laid, drywall had been fixed, stools lined my bar, new chairs and rugs filled the room. Without me even knowing it, my whole house was transformed by the Showhome Furniture crew. Somehow they had heard about my family and came to the rescue. They gathered my family and neighbors and in just one week did months worth of renovations!

That night my house was transformed, but more than that, my heart was transformed. Sometimes as a mother, especially a mother of many children, your time is taken up by so many people you need to take care of that you get tired. You sometimes wish that there was someone there to take care of you. This is not something most mothers expect, and I certainly did not. The fact that so many people cared enough about me to help me with a task so overwhelming and daunting.

My life was forever changed by their love, their attention to detail and generosity!
